SALTWATER WOMAN

Growing up in Tasmania in the 80s and 90s, with idyllic coastal memories imbedded in her imagination, Annalisa Lawrence, known as Saltwater Woman, injects a calm into playful beach scenes of women surfing and families enjoying a sunny beach day.

Based in Newcastle, New South Wales, with some formal training and self-taught techniques she works with acrylics, resin and mixed media, recreating subtle movements through her play on shadows and inviting brush strokes. Blending her life experience as a mother and surfer she explores the relationship between the ocean and people.

Captivated by patterns in nature, textiles from travels and being a professional beach bum, her work gently prompts ideas of playfulness, freedom and belonging.
