Beau Wylie
Beau Wylie is an Australian painter and illustrative storyteller whose work conjures whimsical worlds where daydreams meet everyday life. Working across oils, acrylics, pencils, and collage, he creates spaces for eccentric characters, curious happenings, and playful mischief. His art invites audiences to step into a rabbit hole of wonder, where imagination and reality blur.
Growing up in regional New South Wales, Beau’s childhood adventures in the bush became a lifelong source of inspiration. Encounters with insects, animals, and the raw beauty of the Australian landscape shaped his sense of awe and curiosity, which continues to echo through his paintings and drawings today. A rich and varied career, spanning architecture, video art, farming, boat repair, gallery installation, and bookselling, further informs his practice, with fragments of these experiences surfacing in the themes and details of his work.
Now based in Newcastle, Beau balances his creative practice with the rhythms of family life alongside his wife and two young children. His process embraces spontaneity, beginning with sketches that evolve organically into paintings designed to spark curiosity and invite viewers to complete the story themselves. His works have been exhibited at major art and design events across Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and Newcastle, where audiences are drawn into his playful, curious, and distinctly Australian worlds.
